When did this event happen? Why is this event important?
The Japanese Imperial Army marched into Nanking on December 13, 1937. Before their march the Japanese were in the Second-Sino Japanese war. When the imperial army reached China , the expected to gain easy land and were caught off guard by the Chinese effort. They were then angered and all hell broke lose onto Nanking and Shanghai. Political Issues were also a big part of the atrocities taken place by the Japanese. The atrocities were carried on for a period of six weeks, were there were 250,000-300,000 deaths total and 80,000 women raped (depending on your sources).
